  2. Server Rules All players joining New Liberty are required to read and understand the server rules. While we’ve made every effort to explain each rule clearly and provide helpful examples, it's important to remember that we cannot account for every possible situation in a game where creativity knows no bounds. These rules do not follow a fixed punishment scale, as each case is assessed individually. For instance, a powergaming incident may stem from an honest mistake or deliberate intent, while a common courtesy violation could be a one-time slip or part of a recurring pattern. This is why human discretion is essential, if enforcement were purely black and white, automated systems could handle reports instead of administrators. Each rule includes a list of examples, often drawn from frequent rule violations or common scenarios. These examples are intended to help you understand the rule more clearly, but they are not exhaustive. If you're ever uncertain about a rule while in-game, feel free to use the /helpme command to reach out to a staff member, or use the designated help channels on our Discord server. Courtesy Courtesy refers to the basic level of politeness and respect that generally is expected in social interaction. While Out of Character, you are expected to remain mindful and respectful of others regardless of circumstance. New Liberty aims to create an atmosphere where any player can feel welcome, regardless of background or circumstance. Regardless of platform, whether NLRP Discord, External Discord or forum, if it relates to the server, it should be respectful. Even if you disagree with a decision or action, you should aim to adhere to a staff members instruction, you are advised to make a report if you disagree about said instruction. Out of Character Toxicity relating to In Character conflict will not be tolerated. Examples of violating this rule include. But, are not limited to; You spam the Community Discord, In game chat or any NLRP platform. You show disregard for a staff members decision. You insult another player through any medium. You go AFK during active roleplay situations, or in a public place. Metagaming Sharing In Character information through Out of Oharacter channels, or vice versa, is strictly prohibited. This includes using Out of Character communication (such as private messages, voice chat, etc) to gain or share In Character knowledge, or using In Character methods to pass on Out of Character details. Any attempt to influence in-character decisions, outcomes, or roleplay using information gained through Out of Character means is considered metagaming. Additionally, your characters must remain completely separate. They are not allowed to interact with each other in any form, directly or indirectly. You are also forbidden from using third parties to pass In Character information between your characters, and you must never reference your other characters within your current character's roleplay. Only one of your characters may be involved in a specific objective, situation, or roleplay scene at any given time. Creating multiple characters to benefit from or influence the same storyline, event, or goal is not allowed under any circumstance. Examples of violating this rule include. But, are not limited to; You have multiple characters in the same faction without prior approval from Faction Management. You scout or gather in-character information on one character, then use it to benefit a different character. You arrange a drug deal with other faction members on one character, then appear at the scene using a different character. You visit a business owned by one of your characters and spend money there using another. You use Discord channels or other third-party platforms for in-character communication without Faction Management approval. Powergaming All actions carried out in the game must be grounded in realism and supported by appropriate roleplay. Relying solely on game mechanics without portraying the actions through emotes or RP is not acceptable in most situations. Examples of violating this rule include. But, are not limited to; You jump from a significant height and fail to roleplay the injuries or consequences of the fall. You Attempt to roleplay lifting or picking up a vehicle (e.g., a truck), which is physically unrealistic. You roleplay shooting another player and immediately forcing the outcome of their death without giving them a chance to respond. You are required to roleplay fear realistically in situations where, in real life, a person would likely hesitate, comply, or avoid certain actions due to the threat of danger or consequences. Your character should not act recklessly or fearlessly in scenarios that would typically provoke a cautious or fearful response. Always consider the potential consequences of your character's actions. If your character fails to show appropriate fear especially in life-threatening situations. Deathmatching You are not allowed to kill or seriously harm another player without a strong and valid in-character reason. This includes provoking someone just to create an excuse for violence, or taking aggressive actions (like shooting or killing) that result in another player’s death without proper justification. Members of factions, whether legal or illegal should keep in mind Rules of Engagement. Examples of violating this rule include. But, are not limited to; Intentionally provoking another player just to justify a shootout. Shooting someone because of their race or background. Escalating a fist fight into a shooting just to win. Additionally, you may only run over another player if it's to protect a life, and even then, it must not be excessive. Using a vehicle to stun a player on foot or a bike (such as ramming with a door) is only allowed at low speeds (~20mph) and must be roleplayed properly, including the action of opening the door. Character & Customisation When creating a character name, the following guidelines must be kept in mind and followed; Names must not be humorous, meme-related, or contain pop culture references Names cannot reference or closely resemble characters from video games, movies, TV shows, or any other form of media. Nicknames are not allowed - names full legal-style name as would appear on government-issued identification. Names should be realistic, exist in the modern day, and be reasonably common. Players are expected to create a realistic and believable character using the in-game customization system. Examples of violating this rule include. But, are not limited to; You make your body invisible or intentionally glitched through the clothing menu. You wear full winter gear at the beach, similarly wearing beach wear during colder weather. You utilize a mask that does not cover your characters face reasonably and roleplay as unidentifiable. When developing and roleplaying your character, the following guidelines must be taken into consideration: Character Descriptions: Your character’s /attributes (viewable via /examine) should provide a neutral and informative summary of their physical appearance, they may not be oversexualised or or inappropriate. Character Uniqueness: Each character you create must have a distinct personality, background, and set of motivations. Creating multiple characters that are essentially identical in behavior, goals, or purpose is prohibited. Minimum Character Age: All characters must be at least 16 years old. No exceptions. Extreme Criminal Roles: You may not portray characters involved in extreme or high-profile criminal activity—such as serial killers, terrorists or serial arsonists, please consult with Illegal Faction Management's scheme requests. Third Party Software or Modifications The use of any game modification, external software, or tool that provides an advantage over other players is strictly prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to; the use of programs such as AutoHotkey, keyboard/mouse macros, or scripted keybinds that automate gameplay or enhance performance in a way that others cannot replicate fairly. Client-side Modification made to your game client must be purely cosmetic and must not affect gameplay mechanics in any way. This includes changing textures, sounds, or visuals that do not give you a mechanical advantage. For example, clothing mods are allowed, but they must accurately resemble the item they are replacing. Using mods to alter vehicle handling, change hitboxes, reduce recoil, improve visibility, or provide any form of gameplay enhancement is considered a violation of this rule. You are allowed to use a game controller for playing the game. However, because controllers can provide aim assist, their use is not allowed during shootings or any combat scenario. Offensive & Sexual Roleplay This rule is designed to maintain a balance between player comfort and creative freedom during roleplay. While certain scenes may contain mature or sensitive themes, it's important to understand that "Offensive Roleplay" refers to specific categories of explicit, graphic, or disturbing content—not simply any roleplay that a player finds upsetting. Business & Property Rules All business and property rules and guidelines may be reviewed and are official rules on the property management section. Lore and Continuity To maintain a consistent and immersive roleplay environment, the admin team has established a defined in-character (IC) lore and world continuity. Just as other roleplay settings have their own unique lore, New Liberty follows its own universe, which draws inspiration from the Grand Theft Auto series while also expanding on it. This rule ensures that players respect and adhere to that shared world, allowing for cohesive storytelling across all characters, factions, and scenes. All information can be found; Continuity & You.
